LIL KIM, LIL WAYNE, OTHERS STORM LAGOS FOR STARVILLE CONCERT
In a matter of weeks, residents of Lagos will no longer be able to sleep at night. That’s because right now, some of the world’s biggest entertainers are packing their luggage, getting ready to come to Lagos , a city fast becoming the headquarters of entertainment in Africa .
And it all gets wilder as the Starville concert; initially billed to feature the Ying Yang Twins has now taken a bigger dimension. Glitterati Beats can now reveal that the concert, billed to hold at the ThisDay Centre for Arts and education will now feature best-seller Lil’ Wayne, daring and sexy crowd puller Amerie and Jamaican ‘sisters Brick&Lace.
All four international stars are to join debuting Nigerian cat Shank in the Lagos concert scheduled for December 15.
According to the CEO of Starville, Iloya Oyarekua, the idea behind the show is to introduce Starville Entertainment to the Nigerian audience as well as provide a befitting platform for its first major signee Shank to enter the scene.
Shank was discovered by Starville in London . The 23 year-old had relocated to the UK after studying Creative arts at the University of Lagos. Now 24, Shank is expected to immediately join the league of Nigerian hit-makers, and establish a solid music career for himself. And he has all it takes to do so. With tutoring from the late Fela Kuti, and his own father (who used to tour with Fela), Shank’s music background is authentic. And, luckily, he has the machinery of Starville to harness his talents. His full debut album ‘the birth’ is scheduled for release in the first quarter of next year. The album will feature appearances by Senegalese superstar Akon , Nigeria ’s pop icon D’banj and the Ying Yang twins.
The concert, already nicknamed 5-stars concert, is being managed by KISS events. The company run by Howie T and Dipo Abdul, in a statement released last week, assured that ‘we’ve done everything possible to guarantee guests’ security, and we’re sure fans will have a swell time, not just because coming in and leaving will be hassles free, but because this is one concert where you’ll find anything you want, as per variety of content.’
And in the words of Iloya, who runs Starville with partners Kunle Olunloyo and IK Okoli, ‘we want to do things the way it should be done. That’s the main reason we’re doing this concert. We want Nigerians to know what Starville is about. What Shank is about. And what it’s like, to enjoy a world-class concert in a safe, secure venue’.
