2FACE IDIBIA DUETS WITH R.KELLY
In 2007 he performed with Elephant Man, won a MOBO, toured the Carribean and got a Range Rover sports. Now, 2008 is starting on a rather bright note for the 32 year-old pop star. Since determined to find an in-road into the international market, his repeated visits to the US began yielding fruits when, last week, he reportedly hit the studios to record a duet with R&B superstar R.Kelly. Sources told Glitz Beats that both singers first met in October 2007 shorty after 2face’s robbery attack. It is believed that’s when they laid the foundation for the collaboration. If the deal works out as expected, Idibia will be the first Nigerian act to have a song with Kelly. And ut will fast-forward his chances of enetrating the international music community.
Already, many A&R eyes are on him, following his decoration with MOBO and MTV plaques in the past three years; and a cross-continent popularity none of his contemporaries can rival. Only few weeks back, Senegalese-born international singer Akon told a live TV audience in Lagos that he’s been thinking of working with 2face (and Faze).
It might interest you to know that 2face has already recorded with dancehall star Beenieman and Ghanain hiplife star Reggie Rockstone (both on mfana Ibaga remix); and Wyclef Jean (on Proud to be Africa, which also features Sound Sultan and Faze).
An impeccable source confirmed during the week that the duet with R.Kelly is being facilitated by his lawyer Toyin Subair who also travelled to the US with 2face. Subair is one of Nigeria’s foremost entertainment lawyers, and the brain behind HiTV.
2face’s manager Joice Ize-Iyamu could not immediately confirm if the song had been recorded but she assured that ‘yes, I know something like that is in the works. But I can’t say more than that for now’.
