Naija's next big rapper?

Grafton records rapper Mtrill will put speculations to rest when he finally releases his long-awaited debut album on October 18.

The lanky rapper, who moved over to Lagos after becoming a favourite with fans in Port Harcourt, told Me during the week that he is ‘‘eagerly looking forward’’ to the launch.

Titled No 1, there are already speculations he is sending a message to fellow rappers with the album. ‘‘I’m not trying to look for any controversy’’, he told AyeniTheGreat in Lagos. ‘‘All I’m saying is – I am here to stay. And after you’ve heard my album, you’ll understand why it’s titled No 1’’.

The album will be marketed by Afrobest. An all-star launch, scheduled for Hotel Presidential, Port Harcourt, is expected to feature Ruggedman, Timaya, Kc Presh, Korkormikor and others.

Grafton CEO Tonye Ibiama will arrive Nigeria next week in preparation for the launch.

Mtrill is up for nomination for  Best Newcomer at the Channel O music video awards billed to hold in South Africa today.
